5 Things You Need to DO, to set up an eCommerce Website
So you have decided to create an eCommerce website. You think you have a good product line, and you have a checking account for your business. (If you don't have a checking account, get one!) What is the next step to getting your store online?

1) Sign up for a Merchant Account so you can take credit cards.

2) Chose a hosting company. Ideally, it will offer unlimited storage, bandwidth, database space, and security so you can protect your shoppers from credit card fraud.

3) Start gathering the information you need to create your website. These items include, but are not limited to:
     A) Product list, on disc or from supplier's website. Be sure you have product photos as well.
     B) Other graphical creatives for your wedsite like photos, text elements, colors, links to websites you like.
     C) Content such as product descriptions, how-to text and video, comsumer comments or recommendations.
     D) Contact information for the website. Email, link to webmaster, mailing address, phone number, and customer service information.
     E) Consider live chat for your site. Studies are showing that sites with live chat are more likely to convert customers to sales.

These items will go to your website designer or developer.

4) Give hosting information to your web designer:
     A) Name of hosting company
     B) User name and password

5) Talk with your supplier about how they format the product database, asking them for guideance in setting up your database. If you are not familiar with these items, pay your designer or developerd to talk to your supplier for you.
